1. Geography
Rancho Bernardo, California is centered on Interstate 15 just south of Hodges Reservoir and the San Pasqual Valley. But to be more exact, it is located within the City of San Diego: east of 4S Ranch, north of Carmel Mountain Ranch, northwest of Poway and south of Escondido.
Only 20 miles separate Rancho Bernardo from San Diego Downtown.
In 1962 the San Diego City Council adopted this master-planned residential community which total area encompasses approximately 6,511 acres.
Since then, private parks and clubs have been developed for each neighborhood in the community; and at same time, shopping malls, golf courses and office parks have been flourished through the years.
Most of the topography of Rancho Bernardo consists of canyons and rolling hills.
1.a Climate
Rancho Bernardo has a semi-arid Mediterranean climate, with mild, sunny weather throughout the year.
The city gets only 10 inches of rain per year and the number of days with any measurable precipitation in the area is 42.
On average, there are 146 sunny days and 117 partially cloudy days per year in Rancho Bernardo. The July high is around 75 degrees, while the January low is 48.
For at least a few days during the summer, there is an increase of humidity and thunderstorms in the area.
